The air has definitely turned colder. In fact, we had a frost that killed some flowers last night. I’m not quite sure why, but I love this time of year.
The optional weekly theme for Week 41 was “Colorful.” (I seemed to time it right with how the leaves look right now!) Who did you write about in Week 41? Regardless of if you used the theme or not, leave a comment with a link to your blog post. We’d love to read it!
These cool days and nights are a good time to do some reading. You can find some good things to read back in Week 40.
Upcoming Optional Weekly Themes:
- Week 42 (October 15-21) – Proud
- Week 43 (October 22-28) – Oops
- Week 44 (October 29 – November 4) – Frightening
By the way, if you’re looking to improve your genealogy, I invite you to take a look at “31 Days to Better Genealogy,” a free guide with some of my favorite tips, tricks, and resources.
For week 41, I wrote about my great-grandfather’s brother who had a drinking problem.

Brown may not be the most colorful of colors, but my ancestor Peter Brown who came to Plymouth aboard the Mayflower is colorful in his own way.

I wondered if a rumored affair led to the murder of my ancestor’s husband.

I didn’t happen to follow the theme this week, as I am trying to write a little something about all my third great-grandparents. Here is one who died in 1816 in his early 30’s, whose probate record I found at ancestry.com.

John GREEN (c1796-1888)
In the spirit of “colourful” (the British and Canadian way to spell it), I wrote about my husband Terry’s 3X great grandfather John GREEN who was a tailor in Wandsworth Surrey England. Family stories say he was a “cheerful and chatty man” who “ended his days very comfortably in an Almshouse”.

RICHARDS–Seth Richards–A Man of Many Occupations
I dedcided that I would follow-up on Silvanius Richards’s family by blogging about one of this sons, Seth Richards. My grandfather spent some time with him and I wanted to know more about him.

CAMPION, Arthur Gifford – 1805-1876 to Canada from England/Ireland. Another direct ancestor in my ex-husband’s line for my children to learn about. With a mystery: was he married twice? Which would mean his first wife is the direct ancestor in the family… More research to do, obviously! In Ireland…

ARRINGTON – William Arrington (1662-1725), my 8th GGF. I don’t know a whole lot about his life yet, but apparently he was a person of “ill flame and reputation!” My Pinterest board address here:
