Week 26. We’re halfway there! Not coincidentally, “Halfway” was the optional theme for this week.
Some of the posts that stood out this week were:
- “Who’s Taking Up My Time,” by Cheri Hudson Passey of Carolina Girl Genealogy. (Cool photos!)
- “Halfway: Annie Cox,” by Beth Gatlin of So Many Ancestors! (I loved Beth’s clever take on the “halfway” theme.)
- “The MEDER-WILMES Family of Diekirch,” by Cathy Meder-Dempsey of Opening Doors in Brick Walls. (Cathy should get a medal for wading through that handwriting!)
Your Turn
Who did you write about this past week? Leave a comment below with a link to your post and a little bit about your ancestor.
Upcoming Optional Themes:
- Week 27 (July 2-8) – Independent
- Week 28 (July 9-15) – Road Trip
- Week 29 (July 16-22) – Musical
- Week 30 (July 23-29) – Challenging
The July themes post has some suggestions on how you might interpret these optional themes. Use it as a starting point — use your imagination!
Thank you Amy for the mention!!
52 Ancestors: #26 Halfway: The MEDER-WILMES Family of Diekirch
by Cathy Meder-Dempsey at Opening Doors in Brick Walls
I made my father a promise when his health no longer permitted him to research our family history. I would take over and learn more about his maternal grandfather’s line: Muir from Scotland. I also promised I would write a book about what I learned. I had no idea how large a task that would turn out to be. This week I wrote about the process I am using to write that multi-volume, electronic book.
Writing a Family History
Robert MUIR (c1800-1869)

EVANS
Who really killed this 15-year-old relative in a Philadelphia street fight in 1881?
James Burton Evans – A Murder Story Halfway Told
http://wp.me/p4ioO6-eO
These two take up at least half of my research time – if not more! That’s okay – they instilled a stubbornness in me….:grins:
George Neuhuedl & Samuel Melville Hawkins

I complete the story I started in week 23 about 2 brothers who both married 3 times. This week my post is about
DEMPSEY, Thomas a Contractor’s Carter from Glasgow Scotland
http://martinewsancestors.blogspot.com/2015/06/52ancestors-week-26-halfway.html
Stephen ASHBY (d. 1829) of Kentucky. I’ve only researched him halfway because I really should get to Kentucky and look at primary source records!
http://frommainetokentucky.blogspot.com/2015/07/stephen-ashby-d-1829-52-ancestors-26.html
John PERRY & Sarah BETTERIDGE, of Warwickshire England. I’m only half-way through my research plan for this couple and their mostly unknown parents, trying to figure out why they had their 3x banns called two years apart… Mysteries to unravel.

FURLANI 52 Ancestors 2015 Edition: #26 Candido ‘Condy’ Furlani (1888 – 1938) by Eileen Souza
For the halfway mark, I have chosen my grandfather, Candido Furlani. Candido went by the name Condy in the United States. I never knew him as he died before I was born. I selected him for this week’s post because I feel that I am only halfway through my research on his line.

First post in some time, about the legacy of my grandmother, Catherine T. MARSHALL Diggins (1895-1967), to her descendants.

Amanda Larimer Horne– no. 42 (week 26). It’s been several years since I’ve researched Amanda and this time I learned she was a dressmaker. Now I understand how she made the beautiful baby gown hanging in my bedroom. It always pays to take a look back.

HOPGOOD, Mary (1823-1894) – My 2 times great grandmother’s HOPGOOD line continues to give me headaches, no doubt from banging my head against that intimidating brick wall! I know her father was probably William according to her marriage certificate. She emigrated with her husband Charles ANDREW from Cornwall / Devon to Prince County PEI Canada in 1842. Other than that it’s all guesswork.
A newly discovered “other half of the family”

COX – “Halfway”: Annie Cox

Annie was my great-great-grandmother’s half-sister.
Thanks for the mention, Amy!
I wrote about my 2nd Great Grandmother, Mary Yuiel because she died half way through her life, at 39. And I think it is interesting how I found her family.
I chose my subject for halfway by finding the ancestor born halfway between myself and my oldest confirmed ancestor. http://ancestorchaser.blogspot.com.au/2015/06/52-ancestors-week-26-halfway-is-robert.html
Peter HAWK – (1791-1824) I have not even halfway researched my Hawk ancestors. Something I hope to remedy.

Not a satisfied feeling when an ancestor seems just half researched. My Norwegian ancestor Ole Joensen is not proving easy to follow. http://victoriajosfamilystories.blogspot.ca/2015/06/ole-Joensen-b-1758-1760-52-ancestors.html?m=1
Sorry but necessity dictates typing out the link to my story on my iPhone and errors creep in too easily. Try http://victoriajosfamilystories.blogspot.ca/2015/06/ole-joensen-b-1758-1760-52-ancestors.html?m=1
I am so close to being caught up! The race to catch up is more than halfway done! Maria Duryea is an ancestor I wish I could feel I was more than halfway certain of her parentage!

BALCH, John – Better late than never! Halfway there! http://mymaineancestry.blogspot.com/2015/07/john-balch-52-ancestors-26.html
Thanks so much for the mention, Amy!!
I wrote about my step great grandmother Sylvia Sheppard Bryant. This is part one of a series http://www.howdidigetheremyamazinggenealogyjourney.com/2015/07/52-ancestors-2015-edition-26-sylvia.html

These women are just amazing!
I feel like I am only halfway through researching my great-great grandfather, William Henry Murphy and am out of ideas of ways to learn more….frustrating!

Two different family lines traveled what probably felt like halfway around the world to get from the east coast of America to the west coast and the gold fields of California. And that is why I am a California girl.

I had planned to write about an entirely different person for this one, but one of my ancestors just spoke to me and I changed plans. I’ve written about my fourth great-grandmother.
HENDERSON, Mary Susan

Abner Adkins born abt 1806
I have so much more to discover about Abner.

It’s July… obviously not the beginning of the year! How do I get started; how do I add your widget/logo to my blog (that is brand new); and how do I link back to your site? Sorry about all the newbie questions.
Jonathan KASER–The last of my father’s paternal uncles to be introduced. I puzzle over why he did not seem to know his uncles and cousins, but a great-grand daughter of Jonathan Kaser became one of my Facebook cousin finds.

No ancestors in America for Independence Day so I recorded information about my 4th great grandmother Agnes CUNNINGHAM who was born in 1776 in Scotland.

HAND, Sarah Britton – Sarah died at age 27 in 1820, leaving behind a husband and five children under the age of 10. Sarah was my third great-grandmother.

WILSON/ELLIOTT – My Great Great Grandmother, Rebecca Jane (Wilson) Elliott was my choice for this week. My Pinterest board link here:
